I need to get a hobby. Usually when I get home from work I vege on the couch in front of the tv. Now that it's dark outside in the evenings, I am usually tired by 7:30pm. Early bed times are making me feel really old! I decided I need to get a hobby. In high school, it was band. In college, it was scrapbooking. Now I have nothing. Hobbies I've considered are crocheting and stamping, however, I haven't really started any of that. Any suggtions?
On the other hand, maybe it's not so much the hobby, I just need the motivation to get off the couch and do something productive.
Currently there is so much ice in Seattle and the surrounding areas and the temperatures are chilly (13 degrees to a former midwesterner is not that chilly) so all the school districts are closed today. The news crews were even telling people not to leave their homes and to make sure that their neighbors have heat. Like I said before, the world ends when snow/cold weather hit our area. This morning I walked to the bus stop and got to work safely. Only a handful of employees are in our office right now. Maybe I should have stayed home and taken a "snow day".
The funny thing about Western Washington is that when it snows, the whole world comes to an end. 4" - 12" of snow fell up north, including the city where my hubby works, so it's a snow day for him! Unfortunately no snow fell in downtown, so I'll be working away while my husband is hitting the slopes! We had 1" of snow at our house, which I LOVE because it's a rare occurance! Chances are it will be gone by the time I get home tonight, but one can always hope that it will stay for a little while!
I heard the Thanksgiving Song by Adam Sandler last night, and since then I have had it in my head. (Click on the photo to hear the song. I haven't figured out how to put videos on my blog yet!)
Yesterday I was walking across from Westlake Center, which is place where homeless people of all ages like to congregate. One of the homeless teens was holidng a sign that said "Spare Some Weed". Usually I see signs that say things like "Sick, homeless, need food" or "Homeless Veteran. Please spare some change". One of the most humorous signs I saw once said "Let's be honest. I'm going to use your change to buy beer." You just never know what you'll read.
I was hoping to post another "Wonder of Washington" this morning, however, the only thing mentioned on our news this morning was "Breaking News" from Bellevue (WA) of a construction crane falling in the downtown district, weather and traffic.
Have no fear....there is more exciting news about today! For all you Grey's Anatomy fans, the Oprah Show will be on location with the cast on today's show! Oprah's best friend Gayle King will be in Seattle with about 20 Grey's fans, who will get to ask the cast questions. Unfortunatley I am not one of those 20 people....I always find out about these Grey's events one day too late! I need to start paying more attention!!!!
Inspired by Good Morning America's new wonders of the world segment, our local news station has compiled a list of the 7 wonders of Washington State! Unlike GMA dishing a new wonder each day, our news is revealing a new wonder each Friday.
The #1 Wonder of Washington is the Space Needle! I am excited to report that I have been to the top, so I don't need to add that to my list of places I need to visit before I die.
Fun Fact - Bill Gates won a trip to the Space Needle when he was 11 years old for memorizing the Sermon on the Mount.Who knew?
This story is a little bit long, but it is DEFINITELY worthwhile! (Read first, then watch the video.) If only all parents loved their kids this much, how great would the world be......
Last week Tim and I bought 4 small sugar pumpkins in order to try out some new recipes we want to make. We currently have a pumpkin pie cooking in the oven right now! It smells delicious! Hopefully it will turn out! Next on our list is pumpkin cheesecake, pumpkin soup and pumpkin bread. I am hoping I won't be all pumpkin-ed out by Nov. 23rd!
...fear to climb! I climbed the Pinnacle! Rock climbing has been on my list of things I want to do before I die, however, the thought of actually going through with it scares me! I have a fear of heights and a fear of falling! A friend and I have been talking about climbing for a few months, and last night was the big date! My friend talked me into climbing the course that goes up to the top of the rock. I was thinking the route that went halfway up sounded better. But I gave in and climbed the longer route, 65 ft.. I made it 55ft. up, which isn't quite the top, but it was higher than I though I'd make it! I was so nervous that my legs were shaking the entire time and I kept having to take deep breaths. The funny thing about climbing is that I thought the height would really bother me, however, when you're on the rock you're so focused on climbing up that you don't even notice how high you are! I was on such a high when my feet were finally back on the ground! My friend said that it took her 3 times to finally feel comfortable with climbing. Her 1st time, she learned that she wasn't going to fall. Her 2nd time, she learned she could climb to the top. Her 3rd time, she finally enjoyed climbing! After my 1st time, I learned I won't fall. So for my second time....I'm going to the top!
Our Halloween night was spent driving around Seattle neighborhoods looking for the best carved jack-o-lantern. In recent years, pumpkin carving has become quite elaborate. Many companies are selling stencils of different jack-o-lantern designs. Tim and I have been decorating our pumpkins with these stencils for the past 3 years. Driving around our neighborhood, our observation was that most people have stuck to the old school way of carving a pumpking - the good old triangle eyes and triangle nose. We decided that next year, we would go old school too!
